Break Strength Explained

Break strength is a measure of the maximum force or load that a material or product can withstand before it breaks or fails.

All of our leads have been independantly tested to determine their break strength. The break strength of each lead and width is listed above. For the purpose of explaining how break strength works in reality, I will use our classic range as an example.

Our classic leads have a break strength of 400kg. This means that in a static situation, it can handle a force of up to 400kg without breaking.

However, it is essential to understand the difference beween the weight of the dog and the force it can exert. Even though a dog might weigh say, 60kg, the dynamic force it produces when running and stopping suddenly can be much higher. Factors such as the dog's speed, the length of the lead or longline, and how suddenly it stops, all contribute to this force.

Our leads are designed to handle the force exerted by a dog under typical conditions. However, if you were to allow your dog to run at full speed and reach the end of the line suddenly, the actual force on the lead could be significantly higher.

While our leads are robust, it is always a good idea not to let a dog run unchecked to the end of the line to ensure safety. We also recommend using a harness with a longline to reduce the risk of such force being applied to the delicate neck area.

Adjustable Slider

Our double-ended leads feature an adjustable slider for added flexibility. While the lead itself is designed for durability, please note that the adjustable slider may not be as strong as the rest of the lead. For dogs that are particularly strong, powerful, or prone to pulling, we recommend avoiding the use of the slider to ensure optimal safety and performance.

If you have any concerns about your dog's strength or behavior on the lead, please consider using the fixed section of the lead for better control.

Our most versatile lead yet: the waterproof double-ended lead has multiple configurations thanks to a mix of fixed position and adjustable D-rings.

Durable & High Quality - Made from high density nylon webbing with a PVC coating, our leads are built to withstand everything a dog walker throws at them!

Waterproof & Odourless - The PVC coating is durable and water resistant. Our waterproof leads won't absorb water, dirt or smells and won't become heavy when wet. The waterproof lead provides a comfortable, secure grip, even when wet!

Two clasps to choose from - Choose between two of our original Auto-Lock Carabiner Clasps, or two smaller, standard Bolt Snap Clasps.

3 fixed position D-rings – Positioned at intervals along the length of the lead, 3 fixed position D-rings gives you multiple configurations and length options.

1 adjustable D-ring – Slides along the length of the lead, allowing it to be worn around your body for hands-free walking.

Maximum Length: 320cm – Use at maximum length for more freedom, or shorten it for when you need your dog close to you.

HOW TO USE

Adjusting the length:

Fixed position D-rings: attach one carabiner to your dog’s harness and the other carabiner to a fixed position D-ring along the length of the lead. This creates a handle of sorts and shortens/lengthens the lead.

Adjustable D-ring: this D-ring slides along the length of the lead and can be used to adjust the lead around your waist or across your body. Attach one carabiner to your dog’s harness and the other carabiner to the adjustable D-ring. You can now walk your dog hands free. Please note, this is not suitable for particularly strong or pully dogs.

The adjustable D-ring is primarily for adjusting around your body, or creating an alternative handle length. The D-ring should not be used to attach directly to a walking belt or equivalent and is not designed to bear weight in this manner.

Attaching to walking belt: attach one carabiner to your dog’s harness, and the other carabiner to your walking belt. To adjust the lead length, loop the carabiner through a D-ring AND your walking belt.

CARE GUIDE

Quick Cleaning:

After an adventure, rinse your lead and hardware with fresh water to remove dirt, mud, or saltwater.

For stubborn grime, use mild soap or pet-safe detergent with a soft cloth or sponge.

Carabiner Care:

Unlike traditional spring-loaded clips, our carabiners are designed with no exposed springs, making them more resistant to jamming from sand or grit.

Pro Tip - If you do notice grit in the barrel mechanism, a quick shake or rinse will usually dislodge it.

Important: Avoid forcing the carabiner open if grit is present in the barrel. Forcing it can permanently affect the auto-lock function. Gently clean and shake it out first.

Drying:

Pat dry with a clean towel or leave to air dry.

Storage:

Store your lead in a dry place to keep it looking and performing its best.

Longevity Tips:

Regularly check the hardware, webbing and stitching to ensure everything is intact and performing as it should.
